The story of Jerzy and Helena Kulej, the most vibrant married couple of the 1960s in Poland.
He is a legendary boxer, a two-time European and eight-time Polish champion, the only Polish boxer to have won two Olympic golds, and though never knocked out in the ring, collapsing many times in his private life.
She is a strong woman, always there by his side, but refusing to stay in his shadow forever…


The film focuses on the 1964-68 period when Jerzy Kulej won gold at the Olympic Games in Tokyo only to repeat that feat in Mexico. It’s a multifaceted story of the sportsman’s successes on the ring and the colours of the era, but also a tale of the turbulent fate of the Kulejs’ marriage, where great love was put to the test while trying to tackle a great success.
FILM DIRECTOR

XAWERY ŻÓŁAWSKI is a director, screenwriter and creative producer at Watchout Studio. He graduated from the Film and TV Directing Department of the Łódź Film School. His first feature-length film, Chaos, won the Best Directing Debut Award at the 2006 Polish Film Festival in Gdynia and the Great Amber Award at the 2007 Koszalin Debut Film Festival Young and Film. One of his greatest successes is a screen adaptation of Dorota Masłowska’s novel Snow White and Russian Red, for which he received awards, incl. the Silver Lions at the 2009 Polish Film Festival in Gdynia. His film Bird Talk won the 2020 Golden Reel Award in the Polish Film category, and the Youth Jury Award at the 2019 Polish Film Festival in Gdynia. He received the Golden Claw Award at the festival in Gdynia for It Came from the Water.
